We have ordered MQ v5.3 for z/OS.

Do anyone know what is Client Attachment Feature use for? Is there any documentation talking about its functionality? What is the impact if I do not install it?

Thanks.

Client Attachment Feature is for connecting MQ clients to your server queue manager. Without it you can setup communication between your and other managers.

However, in my previous version v2.1, I have not installed it but I can use PC as a MQ client to connect to the Mainframe host.

From the IBM manual 'System Setup Guide', it states that

***********************************************************
Client Attachment feature
This is optional; it is only required if you are going to attach clients to
your csubsystem. When you have installed this feature, there are no
configuration parameters to set before you can attach clients to WebSphere MQ for z/OS. Administration for clients is available even if you do not install this feature.
***********************************************************

Do anyone know what it means? What is csubsystem? "Administration fo clients" implies what?

I am not sure whether I can still use MQ client to connect to host in version 5.3. As the ordering of the product needs time, I would like to get more information before I start to install.

Can anyone help?

Hi,

If you do not have CAF installed on OS/390 then there is absolutely no way a client MQ program can connect to an OS/390 queue manager.

An easy way to verify if you have CAF installed is to look in the ****CHIN (or was it ****MSTR - I can't remember) started-task for:

CSQX099I -**** CSQXGIP Client attachment feature available

Note: Replace the above "****" with the OS/390 queue manager name.

later
Roger...
