Hello Guys,
I'm new to the forum, sort of new to MQ Series as well. So I'll try to describe the best way what I need to confirm, as I could not find iton the WebSphere documentation.
Today I have a standalone box with MQSeries 7.0.1.8. There is a requirement to install a new version 7.0.1.10 and Cluster it with Windows 2008 R2.
I read on the WebSphere documentation and in this forum that I need 1 IP per each Queue Manager.
The question is... is this really needed? Could I have just 1 IP for all the 4 Queue Managers that I have? Could not find anywhere else that. The reason behind is that the counterpart (remote host) is only able to configure 1 IP and not 4.
Thanks a lot to all MQ guys in the forum.
Regards,
Diego |

The requirement is for each queue-manager to have a unique listener port number. All qmgrs can be on the same IP or HOSTNAME. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

In the context of MSCS clustering, each cluster group you create will have its own disk, network name, ip address and one or more queue managers.
Typically I put one QM in a MSCS cluster group, and if 2 QMs are needed, each get's its own cluster group so they can fail over between nodes independently of the other QMs and their cluster groups. If you do that, yes, each QM will have its own virtual IP address since each QM will be in a seperate MSCS cluster group.
Anytime anyone wants to put 2 or more QMs in the same MSCS group I question why they need seperate QMs.
But there is nothing from an MQ perspective that says 2 or more QMs can't use the same IP address. _________________ Peter Potkay

I imagine the MQ Development team would be interested to know where you read that each Queue Manager needs it's own IP address. That is not, nor has it ever been, the case. If this statement does appear in the MQ Documentation then it should be changed.
Cheers,
Paul. _________________ Paul Clarke

Well by the same account you could say that each queue manager needs its own disks and subcluster, so yes for each endpoint you'll need a VIP....
Now this does not prevent you from putting multiple queue managers in the same "subcluster". The inconvenience is that they will failover together... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |
