Why would you want to *update* a database from *within* a mapping node? What might you achieve by such a thing that could not be more elegantly achieved by first mapping and then updating to a database in a subsequent node?

Right. One can write the results of a mapping to a database by choosing the target from a Data Target, I forgot. Is this what you meant?

Hi,Be sure that you are able to see the target side in the message map pane.since you can do the select in the source side of a message map.In the target side you will find data targets where you will find a option to update a existing table.IF you are still unable to see try creating a database definition.

Well, not exactly. But as @praj1740 noted: updating to a database requires you select a database *target*. Source only offers select.

Please note that capability for Modifying Database content from a Graphical Data Map was added from fixpack 8.0.0.1, so if you are still on the GA level you'll need to update.

See "Graphical Data Mapping Enhancements"
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/wmbhelp/v8r0m0/topic/com.ibm.etools.mft.doc/bb23760_.htm

See "Modifying data in a database by using mapping."
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/wmbhelp/v8r0m0/topic/com.ibm.etools.mft.doc/cm28831_.htm

There is no need to have additional nodes in your flow, the Graphical Data Map is capable of enriching message content from a database, and/or modifying database content as part of the transform.

The new "Capability Scenario" write-ups (See http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/wmbhelp/v8r0m0/topic/com.ibm.scenarios.doc/scn_main_topic.htm) currently only include the enriching usecase, but still worth a look to get familiar with getting the database model into your environment to add tables to the source/target of the graphical map
