Hello,
There are 2 questions relatives to 2 problems I met :
1) FIRST PROBLEM :
In the BuildTime manual (p34 MQWF V3.3.2), it is written about activity staff properties :
"If you do not specify any criteria, that is, you have activated the selection
Dynamic assignment from page 2 but selected no criteria, at run time the
following happens. The activity appears on the worklists of users whose role
and organization match those that are specified in the process definition. If no
criteria have been specified in the process definition, the activity appears on
the worklist of the person who starts the process. The activity also appears on
the worklists of everyone else who belongs to the same organization as the
process starter."
It seems that if you do a simple test with the above conditions, it does not work the way indicated in the manual : the work item corresponding to the activity is assigned to all the personns defined in the System group (and not only to the process starter and everyone belonging to the same organization as the starter).
Could you please confirm ?
2) SECOND PROBLEM :
In the BuildTime manual (p32 MQWF V3.3.2), it is written about activity staff properties :
"When you use specific staff assignment and the assignment cannot be
resolved, MQ Workflow can change the assignment type for this activity to
dynamic. MQ Workflow then tries to resolve the assignment. In this case, the
properties specified for the process on the Staff page (role, organization) and
for the activity on the Staff 2 page (roles, organization, level) are used."
I don't understand the last part ("for the activity on the Staff 2 page (roles, organization, level) are used") because either you choose "static resolution" (i.e STAFF1 tab") or dynamic resolution (i.e "STAFF2 tab "in the activity property).
In particular, if you choose the "Staff1 Tab" (i.e static assignment), all the criterium indicated in "Staff2 Tab" are erased.
Could you please confirm ?
THX FOR YOUR HELP. |

For my first test I changed the Staff2 tab (Dynamic) to have nothing specified. My Process had an organization. I started an instance using ADMIN (who had no Organization) and the workitems ended up on all members of the organization. As Documented.
For my second test, I now removed the organization and again started an instance as ADMIN. This time I got workitems created for ALL users. Not what is documented.
For my third test I started the process using a user who did belong to an organization, there is still no organization in the process, and still got workitems for ALL users. Again, not what is documented. ... At least the way I read it.

I tried this with an unresovleable staffing specified on Staff tab 1. And the workitem ended up right where I expected it to. On the Process Administrators worklist. This is also not the way I read the documentation.
OK... So what are we dealing with here.
As I see it the documentation is a little weak... BUT does it really matter.
Specify the staff the way you want it to be resolved. Don't rely on these "DEFAULTS".
The only thing I really don't like is that I didn't see any mention of the fact that when staff can not be resolved the workitem goes on the Process Administrators worklist.
Of course, you could probably open up a PMR on this with IBM if you choose to. _________________ John McDonald
