Have local QMs accessed via client M071 - works fine. These QMs are clustered. The FR is over the firewall as are many PR QMs. I want to connect to and view channels/queues etc on the FR via the local QM which M071 is connected to via client. The M071 Doc says to specify the intermediate (local) QM and blank out the reply queue field. The doc goes on to suggest that if the XMIT queue name is different than the target QM name then an alias should be defined - however that advice seems irrelevant contact admin as the XMIT queue in this case is the SYSTEM cluster xmit queue. This config (I didn't define a queue alias) actually worked for looking at one of the FR QMs (in a lower environment) but doesn't work at all when I try it in PROD. When attempting to connect, I never get a reply. I'm using Linux MQ 7.5 on the local queue managers and ZOS FR QM over the firewall. Any ideas?

MO71 is, of course, just a normal MQI application so, provided you can send and receive messages using other MQ applications there is no reason to suppose you can't do it with MO71.

Have you traced the messages?. ie. when MO71 sends a command message how far does it get ? You should find it somewhere, perhaps languishing on a Dead Letter Queue somewhere. It is possible that you just don't have the authority to issue commands on the remote system ? Or, indeed, is the reply getting stuck somewhere.

Usually by tracking how far a message gets through the system you can determine fairly easily what the cause is.

Cheers,
Paul.

Ask the z/OS sysprogs to look for errors there. Did PCF command messages arrive on z/OS qmgr?

Actually that's a good point. For a z/OS Queue Manager you have to check the 'MVS' button in the location dialog. This is because MO71 uses MQSC rather than PCF to talk to a z/OS Queue Manager. This is because the z/OS MQ product has only recently started supporting PCF and using MQSC allows support of any version of z/OS.

Cheers,
Paul.
