Hi all,
I am having the absolute worst time getting the Websphere MQ 6.0 application installed on a colleague's computer, which is running Windows 7.
Our process is to run the command line as Administrator and use that to run "setup.exe". At first, my colleague had it installed and was having other problems. But after a couple uninstall/reinstalls, it is now hanging on the install. The progress bar stops at a file called:
amqt0001.log
I have found other threads that relate to this issue, but their solutions don't work for us:
/viewtopic.php?t=33157
/viewtopic.php?t=30377
We have tried the following:
- Wait out the hanging installation for 20 minutes or so
- Change permissions to Read/Write on the Temp folder and its contents
- Delete the amqt0001.log file and rerun the install. (It recreates, but still hangs on that file at 0 kb)
- Manually install GSkit from command line as Administrator
- Making sure there are no spaces in any install paths
When we uninstalled the first time, we first tried running Setup.exe and allowing it to delete the existing installation. But we forgot to run Setup.exe a second time (to actually install) and continued with other steps, so that obviously failed. So we deleted the setup folder from the C:, but NOT the folder in Program Files (fail, I know) and retried. No dice. Then we used the Control Panel to uninstall it from Windows and deleted all possible traces. Still hangs.
I think we made a mess of the uninstall process so I have a feeling there is something left over causing issues.
I am able to install MQ just fine on my own machine. I even uninstalled and reinstalled to see if I have the same problem and it DID hang on that log file, but only for 10-15 seconds... And I have noticed that my colleague's computer is quite a bit slower than mine... Could we just have to wait this out even longer than 20 minutes?
Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

There's no reason to expect that MQ version 6.0 will run on Windows 7.
It's entirely out of support anyway.
If you've rolled the dice and come up lucky 7's on one machine, that doesn't guarantee you won't hit snake eyes on every other machine.
Use MQ v7.1 at a minimum. |

This is the version of MQ that we have to use (most likely due to licensing) and it works fine on quite a few other machines runninng Windows 7.
Any ideas? |

There's no licensing difference between WMQv6 & WMQv7, except that the license you pay for WMQ no longer entitles you to support.
I agree with my most worthy associate. The fact that you can install it on one Windows 7 machine doesn't imply you can install it on another Windows 7 machine, as it's observed fact that any 2 Windows machine with identical hardware and installed from the same media will display subtle differences. Whatever's allowed you to fluke the installation on your set up is not true on the other machine, and may well stop working the next time you apply maintenance at a Windows level. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

I agree with Jeff and Vitor. Even if you can install MQ 6.0 on Windows 7, it is not supported by IBM, so don't ever put in a service request to the vendor, they won't help you.
Your license entitles you to run supported versions of MQ, so go and download MQ 7.5 from Passport Advantage and apply the latest FixPack. It's that easy. It will save you pain in the future. _________________ Glenn |
