So there's been some previous discussion (zpat will be along shortly to point at it) around the application of MQ 7.5.0.1 causing MQ Explorer to stop knowing about Broker in any way.

I can confirm that this is true, and that it is not because of an error or misconfiguration by the installer.

I made a very concerted effort to ensure that I did not create an additional instance of MQ when I installed FP01 on top of my existing MQ 7.5 install.

The subsequent launch of MQ Explorer for that updated install did, indeed, show that MBExplorer was not installed.

From my view, this is a correct behavior for the MQ installer - that it does a clean install of MQExplorer, replacing the existing one. This removes all links and installed plugins and etc.

It may not be *the* correct behavior, but it is by no means an *incorrect* behavior.

I then installed MBExplorer 8.0.0.2 to update my existing MBExplorer 8.0.0.1, and this reinstalled MBExplorer into MQexplorer.

So if you've applied these fixpacks in the opposite order - MBExplorer and then MQ 7.5.0.1 - or only applied MQ 7.5.0.1 - then you should expect that MBexplorer has been removed, and expect that merely following the instructions to install MBExplorer into an existing installation of MQ should be sufficient to restore full functionality.

Jeff,
Does reinstalling MBX after you apply the MQX Fix Pack maintain all the stuff you added / configured in your previous MBX install? Or do you have to start from scratch for MBX?

I reinstalled MBX 8001 - no change (MBX still invisible).

I then installed MBX 8002 - now MQ explorer completely broken.

I have opened a PMR.

I also use support pac MS0P which seemed to keep working after 7501.

Jeff - have you tried with MQ explorer via MS0T - having two installs of MQ Explorer seems to confuse matters even more?

This area needs to be made more user-proof, so that it copes without any fiddling about.

It appears to know about all of my existing Brokers. It can't talk to any of them, because they don't run in 7.5, but that's a separate point.. in general, all of those settings are likely kept in the workspace and not in product level configuration files...

zpat - Do you see a link under your Broker v8 shortcut folder in Windows for MBExplorer for your 7.5 install? Does that work better or worse than the MQExplorer link under your MQ shortcuts?

or are you doing something exciting like strmqcfg from the command line? without some effort to make sure that the right mqsiprofile and setmqenv are set before running strmqcfg, you could be in for some interesting times.

Otherwise, yes, I have multiple copies of MQ Explorer installed, including a separate install of MS0T. Installing FP2 of MBX created links in both my 7.1 install and my 7.5 install. My MS0T is also a 7.5 version, and was not affected by the install of 7.5.0.1, and maintained it's copy of the link file to my MBExplorer install, which was updated to 8.0.0.2, so MS0T now sees MBExplorer 8.0.0.2 as well.

The only real change that appears to have been done to my 7.5 MQExplorer from the MBX install was adding the correct file to the links folder.

I've tried all the instances of and links to MQ explorer. None now work at all.

I only use this desktop PC to manage our AIX brokers/QMs so the local MQ or WMB commands don't interest me in this case.

Yes.

I installed WMQ 7.5.0.0
patched it to 7.5.0.1
Installed broker 8.0.0.1
patched it to 8.0.0.2
Installed MBX 8.0.0.2 (missed out 8.0.0.1 totally).

The MQ Fixpack, perhaps rightfully, removes all link files from the eclipse links directory. This removes the association from the MBX install to the MQ Explorer install.

Reinstalling MBX is a straightforward way of creating this link again.

There are other ways that may be easier, but not as straight forward.

The MBX installation procedure needs to be made more user-friendly. Also there should be a way to save and restore the MQ explorer configuration (and also transport it between users).

Probably.

There is...

Right click on "IBM WebSphere MQ" (the root node in the MQ Explorer Navigator" and choose "Export MQ Explorer Settings", or the corresponding Input...

...

It worked for me. Well, installing MBX FixPack worked.

Check that you have a "com.ibm.wmadmin.broker.explorer.link" file in "<MQ Install>\MQExplorer\eclipse\links".

If not, create a file with that name in that location. In the file itself, set the contents to
Code:
path=<path to MBX>
