Hi -

I am contemplating cloning our message broker production environment (MB 8 on Red Hat 6.2) to make a development environment with it, but I was wondering about hostnames. If I clone the server and change the hostname on the clone, is that going to cause problems? Is there any embedment in Message Broker regarding hostname that happens during the message broker install?

You should do a clean install following the product's installation guide. 'Cloning' is not an option.

Also check to be sure your Broker runtime is using a Service Id that is not mqm.

What about renaming a hostname on a server that is already built (no cloning)? Is this going to cause broker issues?

Cloning is not prevented.

It's not recommended.

It may also impact your licensing agreements, so should be discussed with your IBM sales representative.

Depending on your licensing, standing up a development environment in any manner may impact your licensing agreements.

Changing the hostname should not affect the product runtime environment.

It may negatively affect everyone attempting to talk to the product runtime environment.

You should do a clean install following the product's installation guide.

You can try renaming if you want. It's easier, simpler, and more time efficient to do it through the clean install way.
