I am installing MQSeries for Linux v5.2 (Red Hat v7.3). In the Quick Beginnings manual it says...
"You should currently set the environment variable AMQ_INHIBIT_DLCLOSE=TRUE globally to overcome a known problem with base Linux..."
Unfortunately, for me, i don't know how to do this. Just "playing" with Linux on my laptop. There's no further instruction in the manual. I couldn't find anything on Google.
Can someone provide instructions on how to do this? Thank you in advance! |

I've run MQ5.2 on Redhat 7.3 and I didn't set that environment - must have skimmed over that part of the manual
At any rate, I haven't noticed any problems, so you might be safe just leaving it as is.
But, to give you a quick lesson on setting environment variables, in case you want to set it anyway, the first thing to point out is that these variables may exist only within the duration of your login session, or always be present when you login, depending on the way you set them up. I'm assuming you'll always want this variable to be set, and you want it to apply to all users (you can also have it exist for particular users).
The file you need to edit is /etc/profile
You'll notice that in it, it sets variables like USER, PATH, MAIL, etc., all the standard stuff.
You just need to stick that line, AMQ_INHIBIT_DLCLOSE=TRUE somewhere in there.
Then, you must be sure it is actually "exported" to everyone's login session by locating the line in /etc/profile that says something like:
"export PATH USER LOGNAME MAIL HOSTNAME HISTSIZE INPUTRC"
Now just add your variable name, AMQ_INHIBIT_DLCLOSE, to the end of this list.
Now you're set.
Note, any current login sessions won't inherit this new variable. You must logout and relogin for it to take effect.
Hope this gets you going... _________________ Brandon Duncan

Thank Brandon!
Actually, i got half way through the installation verification test without any problem myself.
At this point, i found that RedHat v8.0 was available and that there were some "issues" with v7.3 although i wouldn't know what they were. So just for laughs, and because i'm just "playing with linux on my laptop", i decided to download it and give it a go.
So far, so good. i like the "look and feel" a little better. Anyway, since you're running RH v7.3, i'll let you know how it goes on v8.0
Thanks again for the help. |
