Hi expertise,

I have a cluster with two full repos(QM1 & QM2) and serveral partial repos.

Aix team wants to do firmware upgrade on one of the full repos queue manager(QM1).

Do I need to take off the one full repos queue manager(QM1) from cluster? Please advise.

My advice is yes, and also maybe think of demoting it to a PR first and migrate one of the other PRs to take its place as an FR; belt-and-braces-just-in-case.

Other advice will soon follow I'm sure...

I'll disagree with exerk about demoting it and promoting another PR to FR temporarily. Its not needed and is not without risk.

The cluster will function 100% with one FR, assuming all PRs have network connectivity with both FRs, which they should.
The cluster will route application messages even if both FRs are out, but no cluster changes will be propogated throughout the cluster until one of the FRs are once againa available.

If the FR on the server about to get maintenance is hosting any application clustered queues, ideally you should suspend that QM from the cluster, wait for any in flight messages to be processed, then proceed with maintenance.

You may get messages waiting in System Cluster Transmit Queues on the other FR and the PRs while this FR is unavailable. Treat any alerts on these transmit queues accordingly.

I didn't use the word 'temporarily' - if I feel the need to migrate an FR I'll certainly not do it on a temporary basis.
