I use WMB V6.1 Toolkit for V6 Broker administration, and WMB Explorer V7 for V7 Broker administration. We have some new V8 Brokers which I need to administer. Since WMB Explorer V7 will not show the message flows in the EG (because of the new application layer) - I was thinking that WMB V8 Toolkit would. I just installed WMB V8 Toolkit and find that there apparently is no Broker Administration perspective in V8 Toolkit. I looked all around in the UI and so far have not found a way to configure a connection to a broker and to view EGs, Applications, and Message Flows. I was hoping to find a full set of administrative capabilities in V8 toolkit, like reload EG, stop flows, configure monitoring, etc. but can't find anything. If not V8 Toolkit, where can I find V8 Broker Administration capability in a UI?

mqjeff can point you to a WIP. Else you can use the built-in runtime HTTP GUI.

if having both V7 and V8 installed on the same machine, you have have to use Broker Explorer V8 on that machine. See installation instructions

FJB - V8 Toolkit so feeble, I downloaded WMB 8 Explorer and tried installer - but of course it failed because WMB 7 Explorer is installed. I saw nothing in installation instructions about recovery of the extensive configuration already in WMB V7 - so I held off uninstalling WMB V7 (so that I could install WMB V8 Explorer). Have to administer V8 Brokers on the command line until I can get this figured out. Any explanation as to why V8 Toolkit doesn't have nice Broker Admin capability like V6 Toolkit?

V8 Toolkit, and in fact v7 Toolkit, doesn't have Administration functions because they've been moved into Broker Explorer.

Because Toolkit is designed and intended to be a Development tool and not an Administrative Tool, and you should be able to install either one separately from the other, and not be forced to install both if you're only doing one.

As has been mentioned, you can't coexist separate levels of Broker Explorer, even though you can coexist separate levels of Broker Toolkit.

So if you want to work with Broker v8 and Broker v7 from Broker Explorer, you have to install Broker v8 Explorer and connect to both your v7 and v8 Brokers. Either from the same workspace or separate workspaces, as you like.

As I expected, I will either have to command line administer V8 Brokers or uninstall WMB V7 Explorer and install WMB V8 Explorer to administer both V7 and V8. I'd like to work with WMB V8 Explorer, but I would not want to lose the extensive configuration currently existing in my WMB V7 Explorer. So far I have not found documentation about migration of V7 Explorer configuration to WMB V8 Explorer. Do you know if retention of existing WMB 7 Configuration is a feature of the WMB V8 Installation?

could you please enlighten us as to what is in your extensive configuration that is so special?

AFAIK, pretty well everything the MB Explorer gets is from the underlying QM(s) and Broker(s)

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions.

Certainly, the configuration is special because it is very large. It took a long time to configure all the connections. Huge network of brokers - I'd rather not go through all that setup again if this WMB V7 Explorer config is not picked up by a newly installed WMB V8 Explorer. Looking at migration chapters in V8 Info Center I do not find specific reference to the migration of explorer config from an early version of explorer.

All of those configurations are stored in the eclipse workspace.

So just make a copy of the eclipse workspace as a backup, just to cross your t's and dot your i's. Then uninstall and upgrade to v8.

Then you will find that v8 has migrated all of the v7 connection information. And your backup is not needed.

Or you'll have data to populate your PMR with...

Rather than copying your eclipse workspace, you can export all of the settings directly within MQ Explorer. Right click 'WebSphere MQ Explorer --> Export WebSphere MQ Explorer Settings'. Then just import them again (if needed...) after upgrading.

Thanks McueMart, I did the export. But WMB V8 Explorer installation (requires WMB MQ Explorer installation) very nicely captured all of the connections that were configured in WMB V7 Explorer. End of problem. Thanks All for your help!
