What is the difference in broker behaviour toward non-broker resources when an entire EG is stopped, as opposed to when all the flows in an EG are stopped?
Which is generally the preferred approach to stop and start an WMB application? (or why would you use one or other of these approaches)?
I am interested in things such as if/when ODBC connections are closed, re-opened and that sort of thing.
My initial view is that I may as well get the production support people to stop/start the entire EG (as opposed to stop/start all the flows in an EG) but I am interested in views on this.
Pros and Cons please. Especially when a DNS entry for a database server (used by a flow) is changed to point to another IP address. |

Stopping a flow is stopping a thread. Stopping an EG is stopping the process. Stopping an EG releases resources, stopping a flow does not. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

EGs are a bit more complicated in WMBv8, as they can contain applications and libraries as well as message flows. But regardless of how a message flow is stopped, it always closes user database connections. How it behaves towards other non-broker resources depends on what those other resources are.

That really depends on whether everything in the EG needs to stop, or only some of the things in the EG. |

Stopping all of the flows in an EG does not release the swap space that the EG has reserved. |
