Hello,

We're setting up a cluster covering queue managers geographically located in 2 cities. In each city there's going to be 10 QMGRs.

We think holding 2 Full Repositories might be the most efficient way. We thought about having 1 FR in each city, but we're not really sure about the idea since network is more likely to have failures considering the distance of 2 cities. If the network is down for some time then we would be at the risk of running with only 1 FR.

Then should we create 4 FRs, 2 in each city? This is something what we never did before...

Run with 1 or 2FR's only,
syncing of FR's is based on 2FR's not 3 or 4 or ... whatever...
message traffic is not impacted when FR's are down.

Geography is one possible consideration in cluster design.

If you believe that the distance, network bandwidth, reliability, etc., between city1 and city2 pose a risk to cluster survival, then set up each city as a cluster (with the requisite 2 FRs); then overlap cluster(city1) and cluster(city2). Each city cluster can exist separately should the other city cluster fail.

No, you'd still have 2 FRs, they just wouldn't be in communication. How much of a risk is that? Seriously? Given that all the FRs ever talk about is cluster changes, how dynamic is your environment that this is a problem?

Given the more serious problem that any PR queue manager that needs to pass business messages to a PR in the other city will be likewise out of luck?
