I'm just trying to learn and understand how to use MQAI interface to administer MQ.

However, not sure if it can be implemented in Java. Is there any java example which uses MQAI - for example inquire a given queue attributes, or create a channel?

I guess it's not clear why you would use the MQAI for anything?

I never have.

I mean, sure, it's got some ideas that seem kind of nice. But then you're always wondering why you're holding a bag?

Just use PCF.
