We just had the occasion to try to recover messages from the log. In reading the material on MQ it appears that Backup and Recovery only is for MQ Series at a system level, not truly the transaction level.
Is this true? We were able to identify the information passed to the "Q", but can you "rollforward" with this information.
Not sure how this would be done, seems to be a lot of transactions on the log.
Thanks in advance. |

Hi,
Unlike (other?) DBMSs you cannot do a restore to a point-in-time with MQSeries.
It's OK if you treat MQSeries as if it were VTAM.
Not OK if you look at it as a DBMS holding part of your company's data & try to sync it with DB2, for instance.
ReQuest/MQ (http://www.cressida.info/products_am_mqla.shtml) can basically do what you describe here. It does not yet have MQ/OS390 support, but that's being worked on.
Cheers, Jan. |
