How are system queues used? The question I am primarily having is, is there any reason to creating a local dead letter queue instead of simply using the SYSTEM.DEAD.LETTER.Q? Is there a reason to create a queue, when the system already has one defined? |

Some reasons. You can decide for yourself if they're good ones:
- SYSTEM queues do not display by default in MQExplorer & many other tools.
- SYSTEM objects should be secured against everyone except the admin. Non-admin staff may legitimately want access to the dead letter queue to handle the messages on it.
- The properties of the SYSTEM queue may not be correct for your site (e.g. max message length too small). You can obviously change that. If the queue manager ever recreates the SYSTEM queues any changes you've made will be lost. The first you'll find out about this is when the queue manager tries and fails to dead letter a message & all sorts of bad things start happening.
There are doubtably other reasons. My question for the effort involved (given that the SYSTEM queue in question isn't the dead letter queue for the queue manager and you have to explicitly set the property no matter what queue you use) why not take 10 seconds out and define a queue? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

As to the other queues, they're used for various purposes internal to the queue manager. Do not mess with these queues. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Every configurable object that is in use by your business applications should be created and managed with an understanding of it's intended usage and to meet the requirements of that intended usage.
That does not apply to any of the predefined queues. |

Given that SYSTEM. objects are (can be) used as templates for the creation of other objects, I'd apply the same type of management rules. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
