I have a question related to MQ V7 HA setup on redhat cluster suite.
Can i create 2 mount points /var/mqm and /var/mqm/log on SAN and configure them as the failover points? (instead of qmgr-data and log). This way we will be moving over complete MQ data(/var/mqm) during failover.

Have you tried this? What were the results?

Bruce,
yes i tried this approach earlier on VCS and haven't seen any issues; successfully failed over dozens of time. But i might be missing some inherent flaw in this approach ? any suggestions pls?

You wouldn't want to do this if you had any non-HA queue managers or more than one HA group (which could fail over separately).

What happens if you want to test a MQ upgrade on the passive side - quite often this is useful to do?

what are the files in /var/mqm. if i'm not mistaken mqs.ini is one of them. if This is a n+1 (number of active servers, one failover server) configuration , the mqs.ini file will get replaced with the file from last failed over server.
Without the qm entry in mqs.ini the qm's cannot be started.
