I stumbled on this doing some Google searches and wonder what the heck is this:
http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/6625117.html
It looks like some very straight forward concept that appears to have receive a Patent !?
Looks like it might be used for some HA capability with MQ (and other prods).
It was issued in 2003 ... anyone know if this capability is part of IBM's WSMQ product presently? _________________ "Truth is ... grasping the virtually unconditioned",

The patent has been submitted by a bunch of inventors and the recipient is IBM!...
I'd say if you are in a high transactional environment IBM may have a product that implements this. Don't think it is part of the base product. _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Seems to address and HA capability more so than high volume. I did not see wording emphasizing or articulating a high volume/throughput environment.
It sounds a lot like the answer to a question I asked not too long ago that there was a long post dialogue related to sender/rcvr channel failover being handled/supported in MQ 7.0.1 where a conname(SVR1(port1),SVR2(port2)) channel list syntax is usable and not just available for client svrconn type channels with MI QMGRs.
The patent wording talks about transmissions queue and copying transmission queues and the like. Sounds like MQS channels and not MQI channels description.

As I understand it, in a cluster setup, you can have any load balancing algorithm you like by implementing a Cluster Workload exit. Haven't ever done it myself, though, so am not speaking from experience. |

The patent wording is talking about a failover functionality based on a high water mark on transmission queue depth, algorithm ...
I suppose a load balancing functionality could be similar configured. _________________ "Truth is ... grasping the virtually unconditioned",
