Hello,
First off, I'm using the HL7 packs which will allow me to map from my input message to an HL7 output.
For those not familiar with the HL7 type tree, it contains message segments that are reused for many types of message formats. For instance, there is a segment that defines the message header, a segment that defines the type of message and even segements that contain information about the person/patient -- all of which are reused across just about every single output message.
The biggest issue I have is most of these data structures will contain the exact same data mappings from message to message. How do I avoid not making specific mappings, of the same data structrures, every single message?
What happens in the future when we make a change to the data or add additional data to the structure. I want to make the change in one place and have it reflected to every message rather then having to make a mapping change for every single message type.
First of all can you confirm as it was a very long time ago that i touched HL7 that i believe that it is a XML tree based structure with a fair number of namespaces and wrapped in tha form of an envelope is it not?
I am not ofay with the HL7 packs per se and there seems to be a number avail like the WTX HL7 packs so are you using WTX or are these sets supplied by IBM WMB?
