Here is one thing I don't understand how to use the commany dmpmqlog.

We are using linear log which is huge now. Sometimes we need to dump the log to check if one specific message has gone through. If I don't specify the flag -b, then I can get the following statement in the dumped log.

"AMQ7719: DMPMQLOG command is using a default of '0:0:2:33138' for the starting dump location.

LOG RECORD - LSN <0:0:2:33138> "

Why does the command choose this as the starting dump location? Is there a more effectve way to decide which LSN I should use as the starting dump location, for example, something like TIMESTAMP? Actually it's difficult to use the TIMESTAMP attached with the msg in the log dump. I suspect it's in the format HH:MM:SS. Does anybody have any idea about this? Thanks a lot in advance.

PS.

F:\>dmpmqlog ?
Usage: dmpmqlog [-b | -s StartLSN | -n ExtentNumber] [-e EndLSN] [-f LogFilePath] [-m QMgrName]

Yes the problem with the MQ Series log files is that records are not timestamped. The best guess you can make is to read the PUTTIME of messages that are put on queues. This is only a guess because (1) it only works for MQPUT log entries and (2) PUTTIME can be altered by the application (although rarely) so is not a fully reliable information.

Apart from the puttime I do not know other information allowing to precisely locate a position in the log.
