I have a very basic knowledge about Linux.
I have worked with MQExplorer in Windows in the past. I need to install the version 7 of MQExplorer for Linux. The Linux that I have available is
UBUNTU 10.10 in a VM Box.
Nevertheless it is not supported in UBUNTU, I have read that some people have installed before.
I follow the installation procedure from MQExplorer for Linux and when I run the command './Setup.bin' (as root) I got the following error

[----Invocation of this Java Application has caused an InvocationTargetException. This application will now exit. (LAX)

I found several entries about this error message and I try several things without success, by any chance someone can give some ideas or things to try ?

Many thanks

Well I would check the java version installed in your Ubuntu.
May be it has some restrictions... can you use a standard sun java?

This looks as much like a display issue as anything else?

you are running Setup.bin from a shell that has access to an XWindows display?

Similar symptoms installing MQExplorer v7+ on CentOS 5.6 i386

console-based install crashes After extracting JRE, After presenting text-based License Agreement, After Pre-Installation Summary.
Starts the installation, and outputs text-style progress bar & then dies with
"
...Java Application has caused an InvocationTargetException. This application will now exit [LAX]
Stack Trace:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: sun.font.Manager (initialization failure) ...
"

Fix?
===========
I found that adding the package for
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61.i386 compatibility Standard C++ libraries
seems to provide necessary libstdc++.so.5 (?)

re-running ./Setup.bin starts Console-based app - but then (?) opens a graphical license acceptance (? even after the text based agreement?)

the installAnywhere graphical install continued just fine, popups, progressbars etc. and finished successfully.
MQExplorer appears to be installed and functional

added symptom...
/opt/ibm/WebSphere_MQ*/java/jre/bin/ControlPanel also failed until
compat-libstd pkg applied.
(JRE ControlPanel IS a Xwindows app, specifically griping about libstdc++.so.5 )

...YMMV. worked for me. caveat - text errors transcribed--poss typos
