My management wants to change the path for FDC files. I know for sure that we can change only LOG path and DATAPATH either using - md
and -ld switches while creating qmgr. But I never know we can redirect the FDC file to any other directory.

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv7/v7r0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.mq.amqzag.doc/fa70113_.htm

However, I wanted to to check with you guys.

thanks

From the link you posted:

Quote:
The path to the errors directory, like the paths to all the other directories in /var/mqm, is not modifiable. However the directories can be mounted on different file systems, or symbolically linked to different directories

So you can't change the path, but you can store the FDC files anywhere you want.

I'd think very carefully before putting them on an NFS, in case the queue manager ever wants to throw a network-related FDC.....

Do you have a current issue with FDC files being produced and consuming a lot of disk space?

You should eliminate the generation of FDC files by addressing the underlying cause, rather than changing the path. In normal operation, MQ does not produce any FDC files. MQ does not do any housekeeping of FDC files, it just keeps creating and growing them indefinitely.

An alternative is to write a script that runs on a regular basis to move &/or archive the FDC files to another location.

Yes, around 60k files are being generated each day.

Yes, that is right and I am working on that. But redirecting the FDC is by product of this issue. I already explained my manager that we can not change the path of FDC or path for any other files except for Log and Data.

see this:

for v6 there was environment variable MQERRORPATH. Ask IBM support if this is valid for v7 and how it is used.

I knew, we can change the sizes of these error log files using variable. Also, in v7 we can set that alongw wtih exclude messaging going into these file in QMErrorLog stanza in qm.ini.

But I never knew that we can even chang the path of these log files. I will ask for IBM about this.
