Wily Experts,
I am new to Wily. I have been given a task to combine a few metrices group eg: look at current depth, and dequeue count . if dequeue count is zero, alert if not leave it as app is consuming the messages.
I understand the logic, but could not find a way to do it in Wily. Just question is can we do it in Wily or not?

I go the answer. we have to create a summary alert. But now I am struggling to get details in the summary alert. Currently, I am not getting any details in the summary alerts that means, I do not have what particular instances of MQ has caused to generate the alert.
If any one has done it, i would be pleased to get an idea.

Jeevan, Did you have to install the Wily MQ Agent in order to get this functionality?
The CA guys who've passed through our site seem unable to spell "MQ". But, to be fair, we didn't specifically ask for an MQ expert, either.
My experience with tools such as Wily, who seem to create MQ agents as an afterthought, is that such tools cannot compete with QPasa/Omegamon/contact admin. Although management will expect them to. I am prepared to be wrong about this, of course!
Anyway, Jeevan, I'd be interested in your observations. |

Thank you for sharing your experiences. However, our case was not MQ agent not installed. I was or am able to create an alert but our need was to combine two condition to create an alert.
Let me explain:
Basically, an alert is created based on certain condition, let say queue depth is greater than certain number. I can not create an alert for a queue on a certain queue manager. If I do that, I have to create more than 300 alert, which is time time consuming, and also put a lot of load on Wily server. If I generalized, I can create a single alert for a queue depth high for all queues on all queue managers. But the problem is this: if the queue is not getting further messages, I will not worry. So I need to check another condition.
Wily does not seem provide this capacity. I am talking to them. Lets see what will ended up with.
By the way, Is QPASA really good for MQ and MB? I am planning to talk to my management but I need to know for sure.

It's no longer QPasa it's BMC Middleware Management and Performance now...
But yes it would allow you to do what you want quite easily.
And it will monitor the broker flows too...
It will allow you to set up alerts on multiple metrics contingent on being true for a length of time like threshold breached for 2 mins so that you do not get an alert for every single breach... etc...
Some people really love it.

IMHO, the problem with products like Wily, i3, ITCAM -- well, MQ is basically an afterthought. A lot of what they do is the same stuff you can do with control commands or mqsc commands.
Products like QPasa/Omegamon/contact admin are written specifically for MQ, and exploit the PCF. I've used contact admin in the past, and we're using QPasa now. I'm a big QPasa fan, but I would be glad to work with any of these three products.
I think of MQ monitoring tools in four classifications:
Homegrown tools
Opensource/free tools
Afterthought tools
Real tools
At our site, the organization has come to expect the type of lights-out monitoring, runtime perspectives, and history/reporting that our "real tool" (QPasa) can deliver. For us, the cost of a real tool is justified by the way it satisfies our business requirements.
Just depends, I guess, on what you really need and how much you can afford (in both money and human resource investment).

You will be pleased if you invest in QPASA (a.k.a BMC's BMM-TM). We are. That's not to say other products wouldn't also satisfy your MQ monitoring needs.
