I have heard that wtx can be used in open source esbs using wtx4is. Has anyone tried doing this with mule or any other open source esb? Is there any online documentation on how to do this?

I do not see info. on 'wtx4is' & 'mule' there , though you can find lots of many ESB related information there !
Someone with more information will come here soon.. to assist you (I believe).

it has many interfaces.

if wtx4is means "WebSphere Transformation Extender for Integration Servers" it may be possible to connect both.
