Hi,

With the advent of xml gateway mode and web serivices aggregation with the latest message broker releases, what would be the real points to choose datapower over MB? Some I can think of are security against XML viruses , DoA attacks etc.. one of our customers has the following list of requirements. Would all these be possible using just pure MB without Datapower:

Quote:

SSL Termination (with Customer Client certificates)
Extract CN from certificate and pass it on as HTTP header
XSL transformations
Schema validation on request / No Validation option on response '
Logging requests (payload), SSL information on error
IP Logging (maybe based on specific SSL certs)
HTTP GET & POST handlers
Ability to block certain IP's
CRL support

I also heard that Datapower is expensive. is that true?

Its not either-or but both. You put Datapower on the edge, to filter and enrich, and use WMB as the ESB in the center. Check with your IBM rep for prices, my clients tend to get Datapower XI50 for $50k per year per appliance.

Only use DataPower where you have an explicit need to use it.

This is true of Broker as well, but Broker tends to fit into a larger set of 'explicit need' cases than DataPower.

You can't, for example, use a Java Singleton from within DataPower.

I was haviing my doubts wether Message Broker can support the following :

Quote:

Extract CN from certificate and pass it on as HTTP header
IP Logging (maybe based on specific SSL certs)
Ability to block certain IP's
CRL support

can it? does datapower have any inherent XML transformation capabilities or would that rely on the broker anyway?

Cheers[/code]
