Get the ESB to read & write from queues. As you've posted in the JMS section you're clearly on track with how to do that.

You probably need to install the WMQ software and set some queues up. Minimum hardware requirements are in the platform specific documentation.

WMQ doesn't use flat files, XML or anything else. It moves data in messages. It's the responsibility of whatever's reading & writing the messages (ESB, application, infinite number of monkeys with typewriters, etc) to create and interpret that data.

I'm sure the particular ESB you are interested in will mention what it's MQ requirements are.
