I may have come up with a workaround for a problem several people, including myself, have posted to this forum. I need to notify multiple people in Workflow when a work item ages past a certain point, but workflow only allows you to specify one user for each notification.

Here is a possible solution. Please feel free to shoot holes in this solution...I welcome any criticism.

1. Setup a "virtual" user in Workflow to receive the notifications.
2. Select this new "virtual" user as the recipient of the notifications for a particular step in workflow.
3. Grant the actual users who need to see these notifications the ability to view the "virtual" user's worklist.

In addition to my banter above, I have a question related to notifications. Once an activity's second notification has gone out, what happens to the work item? Does it stay on the current user's worklist or does it transfer? Does the notification stick around until the work item has been worked?

Thanks,

Rich:

What you say is correct as far as the users being able to see the notification.

As far as the question. The workitem(s) remain "as is" whenever any notification is sent out. They notification items will disappear once the workitem is completed.

Now, as far as an additional solution goes I think that you have our (SYSCOM inc) WorkitemHandler code, if I am remembering our prior converstations correctly. If that is the case this is how I generally handle all notifications. Notifications always go to a "dummy" user. The notifications for this user are queried periodically via the WorkitemHandler (running on a cron), notifications received are then forwarded to the proper user(s) in an email. If you are using the thin client it is possible to have this email contain a URL to the appropriate workitem. Of course, if I am incorrect about you having the WorkitemHandler code, your method is I believe the best "out of the box" solution.

GOOD LUCK

This solution works fine until the users view work items. But how would you send notifications to "beepers" or e-mail notifications to multiple users. Something like "WorkitemHandler" will definitely enhance the functionality.

John: I don't think we have the WorkitemHandler code from SYSCOM.

Venny: What do you mean? You said the solution will work until users view work items...what happens?

Thanks,
