I believe that one part of what you're not stating might also be the licensing model...
Did you check the differences in PVU's for comparable servers?

I got to know from our infrastructure team that there is a huge cost /PVU savings with Linux.

What I am trying to get some feel is from a architecture/performance/ strategy perspective. are there any customers who deployed on Linux.
Most important of all the concerns is the Operational aspect.

The performance reports published by IBM must give you a good starting point

Operationally Linux and AIX are completely different beasts, both have their faithful fan following (Sys_Admin). personally i like AIX.

If your only concern is PVU cost, there is no question, RHEL is the way to go. (RHEL PVU cost is least expensive.)

If your concern is performance, there is also no question, AIX is the way to go.

AIX Power7 outperforms COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) Linux because the hardware and OS is tuned to provide the necessary performance boosts that WMB needs.
