I was trying to deploy a bar file created using 6.1 utility and i get the below mentioned error....

Has any one else faced this problem?

It's a bit low tech, but have you opened the files in your BAR to see which has the illegal character, and where it is? Note that files will not normally have the extension .xml but will still be XML...even IE will tell you you have an error, and where, when you open it.
