Hi Guys,
We are using MQ v7 on z/os.

We have couple of queues which needs to trigger an application(CICS) when there is a message on these queues.

When we have multiple local queues which all will trigger same CICS region.

Question:
Which one is best practice to go with single INITQ for all the local queues or seperate INITQ for each local queue?.

Thanks.

One initq can serve for all queues; but you would probably want to create separate initqs by application type (payroll vs. inventory, for example) to reduce the possibility of an pervasive outage if one initq becomes full.

The standard trigger monitor application CKTI can only monitor a single INITQ so if you have multiple INITQ you will need to arrange automation start multiple CKTI transactions. Only one CKTI is automatically started by the MQ-CICS adapter when CICS connects to MQ.

While this is extra work it does allow you to control which userid your MQ transactions run under.

INITQs rarely become full because trigger messages are not generated if the queue is not open and the trigger message processing is quite simple and fast.
