Hello,

1. I have 2 LPARs namely L1 and L2 in a plex. In L1, I have 1 CICS i.e. CICS1, 2 qmgrs QM1 and QM2. In L2, I have 1 CICS i.e. CICS2 2 qmgrs, i.e.g QM3 and QM4.
L1 - CICS1, QM1 & QM2,
L2 - CICS2, QM3 & QM4
QM1, 2, 3 & 4 are in QSG i.e. QSG1.

When QM1 & QM2 in L1 is down, can CICS still put msgs to shared queues and msgs get pick up by QM3 or QM4?

2. In CICS TS 3.2, where or what parameters can I set so that a CICS region is being connected to a QSG?

Pls advise. Thanks.

.Hoe San.

I don't think you can unless you're at CICS TS 4.1. The CICS TS 3.2 Info Centre states in regard to using the CICS-WebSphere MQ Adapter that "...a single CICS address space can connect to only one queue manager at a time...", and if using the CICS-WebSphere MQ Bridge although it doesn't explicitly state the same, I can't imagine it's any different.

Moving this to the Mainframe and CICS forum...

A cics region can connect to either a qmgr or a queue-sharing group.

Nothing is simple in WMQ for z/OS. Contact your MVS systems programmer, or a more experienced WMQ for z/OS system administrator.

How to set up and operate a queue-sharing group is documented in the WMQ for z/OS System Setup manual, and the WMQ for z/OS System Administration manual.

I'm still pretty sure that's CICS TS version dependent

Somebody correct me... but I don't think it works that way.
AFAIK you access the queue sharing group through the qmgr CICS is connected to. So if for whatever reason say L1 is connected to QM1 and some queues are shared in the QSG with L2->QM2, then if QM1 is down, access to the shared queues in L1 is gone too...

Have fun

From the CICS TS 4.1 Info Centre: "...You can now specify a WebSphere® MQ queue-sharing group for the CICS-WebSphere MQ connection, so CICS® uses any eligible queue manager in the group when it reconnects to WebSphere MQ, rather than waiting for a single queue manager..."

I suspect though that in cases like that of bay hoe san, even if at CICS TS 4.1 with only one queue manager in each LPAR, that reconnection to a queue manager on another LPAR is not possible - I'll confirm that (or not) when my friendly CICS expert is available.
