I have installed WMQ on this Win2k8 server and configured it. However every attempt to start an inbound channel is met with a 2059. I have no problems starting outbound channels. I see no error messages on the Win2k8 server. The only error message I get from a remote qmgr is 2059. I can ping the sever using a command prompt but am unable to ping a channel. I have checked, double checked, and triple checked the listener and port settings. Has anyone installed on a Win 2008 server or had a similar issue with communications? |

Can you telnet to the actual port the queue manager is using, rather than ping the server?
Are you certain the listener is running on this queue manager?
Are there any messages in the queue manager logs (it's ambigous if by "no error messages on the Win2k8 server" you mean the logs or the event viewer) _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

FWIW we've all had this kind of 2059 problem on every version of WMQ and every platform at one time or another. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

I'm not sure what syntax is for telenting to a paricular port, if you could post that I'd appreciate it. As far as the Win2k8 server there are no error messages in the event logs or the MQ logs. And there is no doubt that there is a listener running on the proper port. I've shot myself in the foot enough times to ensure that I verify the obvious things. |

Just asking.

telnet <ip addr> <port number>
You should get a blank screen as a response, and error messages in the queue manager log as the MCA fails to interpret what you're typing as a valid WMQ data stream. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Thanks.
It seems as though that port might be blocked, this is what I get:
"Connecting To <IP address>...Could not open connection to the host, on port 1414: Connect failed" |

Yes, you apparently have a firewall running that is blocking the port.
This is potentially just the Windows basic firewall. talk to your Windows server admin to get them to verify this. |

Thanks for the replies. I poked around on the server and figured out how to turn the Windows firewall logging on and sure enough it's blocking me. I appreciate the help. |
