Dear BMC,
I confess that I was concerned when you bought MQSoftware. I wondered if I would get the same high quality QPasa service to which I had become accustomed.
And I have! The service is still wonderful and the product is still very sound.
But, last night I upgraded QPasa to v5.0. Oh, woe is me. Where is that darling little chili pepper logo? The catchy green splash screen? The icon in my Start menu that simply said "QPasa"?
Gone, gone, gone. Replaced by a boring logo on a discreet blue screen. The word "QPasa" has become an unpronounceable acronym. Do you know how long it has taken to train our developers how to use the word "QPasa" in a sentence?
In an act of rebellion, BMC, I have put the old QPasa logo on our custom Overview screen. If I could replace the Start menu icon, I'd do that too. It is foolhardy to encourage confusion amongst our developers.
It's still a great product! But someone in your marketing department, BMC, needs a good trouting.
Respectfully,
Shirley |

You've trained your developers?

Could you get the Start menu to use the icon from the earlier executable? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

About 0.5 seconds? Anyone that heard the QPASA product name even once remembered it from that point forward. And often smiled when they first heard it too. I still can't remember the new name without looking it up.
It'll always be QPASA to me, but we haven't upgrade to 5.0 yet.
Good idea about adding the good ol' QPASA logo to the splash screen.

Sorry to say but I'm there with Shirley.
BMC Middleware Management and Performance (I hope I got it right) really is not a catchy name. I do wish their marketing department had stuck with QPasa!
By the way I believe they (BMC) deserve a word of praise too. I have used since their support for QPasa (we're just about to upgrade) and it has still been the stellar support we used to enjoy. Please don't dilute it as you did with the brand awareness... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Yes, BMC has maintained the stellar support we loved from MQSoftware. And I really appreciate the web-based trouble ticket system.
A reliable source at BMC suggests that the new acronym, BMM-PA, is pronouced "bumpa".
QPasa. Bumpa. Huh.
Despite the distressing developments in re-branding and a couple of minor buglets, I'm happy we upgraded to 5.0. Several nice improvements in Configuration Manager, including a swell Search tab that lets you filter objects across the whole network to find particular objects.
Also, a Selector String option for filtering when browsing messages. Haven't a clue how to use it.
Security tab on Mgmt Console has an improved interface.
I love poking around in QPasa. I mean, Bumpa. |

That might be in relation of V7 attribute filtering (see JMS changes)... Just a guess so don't take my word for it... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

I worked at BMC for two years 1994-1995 and did the initial development of the Patrol Recovery Manager for Sybase/Oracle.
Nice place to work. Free contact admin and other fruits every day, cow hides hanging in the elevators.
At that time, the development culture was a bit of an anarchy. Every developer went their own direction and no one really coordinated the whole effort. We had a budding Product Author on our team who was supposed to be the coordinator, but he was backwardly shy (Tunisian) about addressing anything and technically inept. One of those PhD people with no real field experience.
The trade-off for the PhD guy was our manager, who was sweet as can be and supported some of my ideas. I'll never forget her. Most of the people there at that time came from the oil company IT shops.
One high priority item on their list is Customer Service. They realize how important it is. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

I agree. Name changes are frustrating.
