Hi All,
I came across the following IBM MQ certifications in IBM site:
1. IBM Certified System Administrator - WebSphere MQ V7.0 - Test 374
2. IBM Certified Solution Designer - WebSphere MQ V7.0 -Test 376
3. IBM Certified System Administrator -- WebSphere MQ V6.0 - Test 994
4. IBM Certified Solution Designer -- WebSphere MQ V6.0 - Test 996
Please help me decide which certification shall I take. I am a beginner and what is the difference between all the above certifications.

you don't want to take any V6 certifications as the product goes out of support in a year. Gear up for V7 certification.

Please suggest as a beginner which one among shall I take
1. IBM Certified System Administrator - WebSphere MQ V7.0 - Test 374
2. IBM Certified Solution Designer - WebSphere MQ V7.0 -Test 376
Also, since I am just a beginner can you suggest me anything other good study book apart from the one listed in IBM site.. All I could get online is dumps which will really not help me to learn anything. I find the classroom and online courses little expensive  ...
Please advise..

Neither.
As a beginner, you're not qualified to pass either of those. And studying for them specifically won't actually make you useful in the job role they are testing against.

You need to know how to read and use the material on the IBM website to be any good at the jobs involving IBM software. You need to know how to learn new material and keep current in your skills, or you are not of value to any employer.

Find an employer to pay for it. Or look again for the courses that are actually *free* - in particular there's a lot of presentations that are available for replay.
You can also learn a lot by reading posts here. Don't ask questions, read answers.
Nobody's going to hand you this. You have to put in the effort yourself. |

Adding to what Jeff stated, the certifications are industry recognition that you have gained a set of skills for a particular product specialist role and you can apply them. After you have been actively using the product for a few months, have a look at the sample exam questions. If you can answer nearly all of them correctly without referring to manuals, you are ready for the certification.
Do not ask about certification exam questions on this forum.

The intent of certifications may be exactly that; but, in fact, passing a test merely indicates that you have passed a test.
I would have been more impressed if ginie_ibiza had asked about acquiring real-life, hands-on experience with WMQ, because that is what I am looking for in new hires.

Which can be a bit Catch-22. I was lucky to start in a shop where WMQ was not heavily utilised, but grew year-on-year, and I was able to grow my knowledge alongside that increased usage - it wouldn't happen there now. Not many shops are now willing to take on 'apprentices', which they see as expensive (training courses etc.), time-consuming (they need them 'now', not a year, or years, down the line), and too much effort (whoever mentors them is seen as a not-very-productive resource). Pretty much a case of "...you can have the job if you're experienced, but we're not giving you a job for you to get that experience..."
I'm suffering such an outlook at the moment, where the filter is to have 'certified' people, even though those people may have little real-world experience but are good crammers/have downloaded and memorised all the questions from a bucket site. Of course, they're rather cheaper than an old(ish) lag like my self
