Hello,
I am NOT sure if this is right question. But I am sure I will NOT get answer other than here.
I have been working as a Message Broker Developer for last 2 years. Recently I got an option to move to ABAP. They are providing me 3 months training on ABAP after that they will deploy me on ABAP applications. I am really NOT sure If it is a good idea to move from Message Broker.
Please help. |

Have you compared pay? Having ABAP skills is highly marketable and not a bad thing to contemplate... especially if you have also java skills and can write apps using JCO...
Have fun _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

As you already familiar with MB,
My Advice: "Don't move, stay back with Message broker, its a rare skill." _________________ Regards

Thank you so much for your answers.
Yeah! I am comparing in terms of stability, package(money) and demand in the market.
After going through both the responses It seems to me both the options are great. However, Message Broker compares favourably as it is a rare technology. I wish to bring it to your notice that I have 1 year of experience in Java before working on Message Broker. Total Experience = 3 years.
I hope I will take decision soon and I highly appreciate your responses.
Cheers,

Hi,
My opinion is that WMB is not all that rare a skill...plus there are lots of integration products out there which all work on similar principles. Hence you'll find that people can easily move from one product to another and freshers are known to pick up WMB quite quick.
ABAP I'm not too sure, but if you consider SAP products in general, the demand and pay is quite high, especially for business domain consultants.
In your particular case, 1st year Java, 2nd 3rd year WMB and now perhaps ABAP....might not look all that good on the resume. WMB + SAP knowledge can be a killer combo, but you'll need to make sure you stick to it and grow in that line.
Regards. |
