An attempt to install the MQ6 Eclipse prerequisite on a Win2k server via launch pad fails with a 2755. 3 error code. This server has 2 gigs memory. I have an earlier post regarding an Eclipse installation failure via silent install - (that was before I realized that the problem was more basic because the installation fails regardless of installation method). I'm coming up with zilch researching error code 2755. 3 |

Was the server 'clean', i.e. no previous installs of Eclipse/WMQ that had been removed? _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

This server never had Eclipse installed. However, it had MQ5.3 uninstalled. The uninstall was clean. The QM was stopped and deleted via MQExplorer. The service was stopped. MQ5.3 was uninstalled from the add/remove panel. And the MQSeries service no longer existed. Perhaps I should manually remove some directories? |

Since you *are* working with a supported version, i.e. v6.x, now, you *could* open a PMR. If your shop is entitled, that is..
You should also double-check stupid things like the windows compatibility mode of the installer. |

As far as I am aware Eclipse is stand-alone, but it wouldn't hurt to go through the file system and Registry to ensure all WMQ-related entries have been removed. Usual caveats apply to backing up the Registry first etc. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

Jeff, that's an interesting comment about the compatibility mode of the installer. It may be "stupid" but its also obscure. I checked the properties of msiexec and found no information re: compability mode.
It is version: 3.1.4000.1823
With respect to compatibility mode, is this relevant?
Microsoft added a compatibility mode to Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) that was previously available only in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit's Application Compatibility Toolkit. This mode is useful if you have an old application that won't run on Win2K. The compatibility mode lets Win2K run as Windows NT 4.0 SP5 or Windows 9x for a selected application
.
You need administrative privileges to run Win2K's compatibility mode. To enable the mode, go to a command prompt and enter
regsvr32 %systemroot%apppatch\slayerui.dll |

right click on the executable and select "Properties". At least in XP there is a tab for 'compatability'. The back drawer in my brain says there were some issues in this area at the early 6.0 levels... and there was a switch, maybe... ?
But yes, that compatibilty mode for running older programs is what I'm talking about.
You also don't say if you're using a recent installer package or one that has been lying around for a while... |

Jeff: There is no compatibility tab in properties - WIN2K system.
The doc says that I need Microsoft® Installer (MSI) 2.0 or later
I have version: 3.1.4000.1823
However, it has been laying around for a long time (6/20/2003). |

Sorry about that Jeff. I realize that you were talking about the MQ6 installer package. And the answer is: It is a brand new download of C8471ML. |

That's distressing, as it's an exact match to your error code.
Are you at Win2k base version? I know the sys requirements changed over the lifetime of v6 fixes. So it might require you to be at FP1 or FP2. |

Sorry, I missed the link (not thinking it relevant). But its relevant. I log on to a 2008 Server (gateway server) and from there I RDC to the server. I think of this as being logged in to the server but I guess not, its a remote desktop connection.
UNC is not supported on this server (for whatever reason) so I will insert a copy of the IES directory to a local drive and see if that works. Thanks for the help. |
