Hey Everyone,
I'm pleased to announce a new navigation bar that you'll find at the top of every page on this site. It basically allows you to go from anywhere in the site to anywhere else with minimum clicking. If you hover your mouse over any of the headings, you'll see a list of links below it. For instance, from the "forums" heading you can access every forum page on the site directly.
I also thought it would be convenient to add links to the more useful MQSeries manuals on IBM's website under the "documentation" heading.
*** Please, let me know what you think of this new functionality, and if you experience any problems with it be sure to respond to this post. I've tested this on Netscape and IE, but since it is javascript, some people may have issues with it. _________________ Brandon Duncan

Hi Brandon,
Works fine with this antiquated Netscape browser (4.77). I especially like the "documentation" link.

Brandon,
Great idea.
Can you make the Documentation links open up in a new popup window?
I think you hit the most important ones in the drop down list. Can you add the link to the MQSeries Library HomePage, http://www-3.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/library/manualsa/index.html.
Maybe people will need one of the other ones (Clients, JAVA), or the pdf versions of any of them. _________________ Peter Potkay

Looks GREAT!!! ...
Suggestion ... the popup of the menus is too quick. Consider adding a 50-200 msec delay between mouse over and the actual popup. This will stop the "I'm going to the back button but moved over the menu bar for just a second and everything poped up ....!" |

Good suggestions, both of you!
It definitely makes sense to popup the documentation files in new windows. As far as getting to the library home page, you can actually do it now by just clicking the "documentation" heading button itself. But I'll make it more obvious by adding a menu item additionally. And I'll see if I can't introduce a little delay time... _________________ Brandon Duncan

Hi Brandon,
C# and Visual Basic are not listed as menu items in repository Menu.
I think the navigation bar will look great if center aligned. _________________ Kiran

Brandon:
Menu bar is just what I need... Now I'll never go crazy again, trying to figure out how to get to the repository. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a link that goes right to the forums, not the home page.

Brandon,
How about you center the bar and slow down how fast it popups (It reminds me of a 16 year old boy seeing Britney Spears - just a little too excited ).
later

Took care of both of Peter's ideas. Now all external links are popped up in a new browser window. This time delay thing is proving a little trickier. I am trying to use javascript's setTimeout function to accomplish this, only problem is I've only been successful in getting the menu to pop up a half second later - whether or not you've hovered your mouse there the whole time
So I'm trying to discover a simple way to 'reset' the timer if you move your mouse away from the button before the interval is exceeded... More to follow _________________ Brandon Duncan

Vicky,
I didn't know the .htm and .html were two different files... I try to stick to three letter extensions on everything, but I expect .htm to either work or not, in which case I try .html, but I definitely didn't expect them each to refer to a different page! I'll fix that right away, thanks for letting me know... _________________ Brandon Duncan
