Hi Guys
My problem is simple to explain, hard to reverse.
I must have installed MQ incorrectly on one of the servers because when i log off the server, the Queue Managers shut down as well.
And since you are only allowed two terminal sessions per server(Windows Server 2003 R2), and one being used to run the MQ services..
This leaves one space available for anyone else who wants to connect to this server.
I need MQ to run as a windows service so I can free up the other terminal session.
Is there anyway you can change it after installation?
And because its been this way for a while, I cant really play around.
Please help!
Thanks

Yes, and it's documented in the manual _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

never mind..
if any other beginner experiences this problem:
Run the Prepare WebSphere MQ Wizard as follows:
1. At the "Welcome to the Prepare WebSphere MQ Wizard" screen, click Next.
2. At the "WebSphere MQ Network Configuration" screen, wait for configuration to complete, and then click Next.
3. You will asked whether there is a Windows domain controller in the network.
* If there is not, click No and skip to step 7e.
* If there is a domain controller, click Yes and proceed to step 7d for another step.
4. If the Windows administrator account that you logged in with belongs to a domain (DOMAIN/USER), then you may see a screen like this, prompting for additional information about the domain account. Unless the domain has imposed restrictions on local user accounts, you can simply click Cancel at this point, and consider your WebSphere MQ installation complete.
Clicking the More Information button provides the following details to help you determine how to respond and complete this screen.
When WebSphere MQ is running, it must check that only authorized users can access queue managers or queues. Whenever any user attempts such access, WebSphere MQ uses its own local account to query information about the user. Domain controllers that are running Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2003 Server, or later, can be set up in such a way that WebSphere MQ cannot use local accounts to check that users defined on those domains are authorized to access queue managers or queues. In this case, you must provide WebSphere MQ with a special domain user account to use. If you are unsure whether this case applies to you, you should consult your domain administrator.
If a special domain user account is required, send the "Configuring Windows Accounts" page to your domain administrator, and ask for one of the special accounts it describes. Enter the account details into the Prepare WebSphere MQ Wizard. This wizard runs automatically at the end of installation; the wizard can also be run at any time from the Start menu.
Restriction: If the special domain user account is required but you carry on anyway and configure WebSphere MQ without it, many or all parts of WebSphere MQ will not work, depending upon the particular user accounts involved. In particular, if you are currently logged on with a domain user account, you might not be able to complete the Default Configuration, and the Postcard and API Exerciser might not work.
5. If the "Prepare WebSphere MQ Wizard" screen prompts whether to Setup the Default Configuration, click Next to skip that task and finish the installation without setting up the default configuration. |

Excellent! Well done!
You can also use the 'amqmdain' command to change this - or at least you shoudl be able to. And you can also modify the properties of the IBM MQSeries Service directly - but you have to change the DCOM Config properties not the services properties directly.
I think the later option is not officially supported though.
You'll also need to make sure your queue manager is configured to start up automatically.
The amqmdain command will also let you start a queue manager in a non-interactive shell, that will not close when you log out. |

It's sort of a site standard. We're not set up for training and as one of my associates points out in his signature"

Hence our delight at posts (as outlined in the guidelines) that go:
"Hey guys, got this problem: <detailed error details with codes & messages but not the entire FDC or queue manager file>. I've looked here & here <links to the documentation and not that stupid mirror> and I've already tried <insert steps> and that's not helped. What do you think?"
This shows you've not just looked at your empty hook sadly, but have gone off, tried different bait, read a copy of "Fly Fishing" by J. R. Hartley, but still remain fishless.
