Hi All,
First of all - I am a complete newbie to WMQ/WMB/WMBT, I have a whole two weeks experience. Luckily in a previous life i did a lot of rock climbing or the near vertical learning curve would have resulted in serious brain injury by now ).
So my problem is: We have an existing publish/subscribe system that uses a custom written broker using JMS as a Message Orientated Middleware). The messages are XML, encapsulated in JMS. We have a number of publishers and subscribers to the message bus. Management of publishers and subscribers is provided by a custom web UI, written in JAVA. Some of the features of the existing management UI allow us to add/remove publishers/subscribers and configure filtering of message elements (based on selectable criteria of message elements) of the XML messages at individual publishers and subscribers (the actual filtering occurs within the publisher/subscriber API - it receives the filtering configuration from the manager at initialization).
We are looking at replacing the JMS message bus and management application with a WMQ/WMB/WMBT (flavours of Version 6) solution. The existing publisher/subscriber apps will only have the necessary mods made to allow them to connect to WMQ, rather than JMS; so the messages will still be in JMS format.
So my question is: can we create some sort of management interface that allows system administrators (not our development team) to reconfigure message filtering criteria (similar to what they do now) using WMB, without having to go through a whole development cycle? ie A need arises to filter out a specific node from an XML message, based on a value of an element for that node for a particular subscriber (or publisher) for an operational period. Can we configure some interface - either in WMBT or a web UI that allows them to make that change and implement it easily and quickly - without having to make coding changes (which takes time)? Any pointers will be most gratefully received....
I first posted this on the IBM developer works Forum: and here is the reply I received:
Sounds like you started climbing just below an overhang
WMB is a good choice for message routing and filtering. When people want to have configurable transformation logic without redeployment, they often choose WMB + WSRR + XSLT. The XSL stylesheet is obtained from the WSRR repository and used to do the filtering / transformation logic in an XMLTransform node.
Having said that, you may want to post the same question on the Business Integration section of MQSeries
You will find a wider range of experts there from within and outside of IBM, and they may well offer a different/better solution.
- So I have followed that advice
- Any ideas as to how I should approach this?
Regards

As you are a newbie and moving to some IBM product, I'd say ask your sales rep for some help to get you going, and build with you some select examples.
These can than be looked up as templates by you and help you build your complete space...
Have fun _________________ MQ & Broker admin |
