Does crtmqm qmname (with no additional parameters) on a Windows server create a service? Does dltmqm qmname delete a service for the named qmgr? manuals do not seem to address these questions.
Its MQ 5.3. (I know, its out of service). |

Have you tried it? What was the result? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

I ran crtmqm qmname but results were inconclusive because an MQ service already existed. It may be that MQExplorer will create a service when a new QMGR is created, but I don't know about crtmqm. |

Since MQExplorer does not run on all platforms, and is an optional feature, what then? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

Windows MQ service applicable only to Windows - MQExplorer is optional but could be run. Question has to do with scenario in which MQ5.3 has just been installed, an MQ service is non-existing, and crtmqm is used to create a QMGR. How should an admin go about creating a Windows MQ service or would this service be created by the crtmqm. I don't have an environment matching this scenario or I would try it and see. |

Are your qmgrs working? Are you receiving error messages from MQ? I'm not sure what your issue is.
And, yes 5.3 is no longer supported. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

My QMGRs are working. I'm not getting any errors. My issue is with getting information about how a Windows MQ service can/should be created in the scenario in which MQ5.3 has just been installed and crtmqm has just been exercised to create a new QMGR. |

The issue is why you're still installing v5.3. It's bad enough but possibly understandable to still be using it but there's no reason not to use the latest version on a new install. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

In this environment there is a rationale for continued use of 5.3 - we have 100s of production Windows servers and a scarcity of maintenance windows. Believe me, I would love to move to 7.0 with this stuff. In some cases it may be the case that we don't meet the prerequisite hardware/platform requirements for installation of MQ 7. |

As I recollect, the Windows service is created when you install MQ on Windows. It is not related to crtmqm.
I do not remember, however, if the service is set to start automatically by default. I believe it is, but it's been a long time.
My sympathies to you. Maintaining hundreds of 5.3 production servers is a challenge, to say the least.
