Hi,
recently i faced different issue, we are using 2.2 mq in HP-UX 10.20 few servers.
Problem was hardware ( some volumes of hard disk ) is crashed that volumes are
opt/mqm
var/mqm
these volumes of data is crashed, we contacted IBM for 2.2 version of MQ software, but they told it is no longer available.
then we tried one option at the end, that is we copied the opt/mqm and var/mqm from other server which is running on the same version, then we configured the Queue Manager,
Now it is running fine
My question is with out installation how mq is working ?
in previous failure OS is not crashed
did the copying of file systems help us in restoring the system or is there any other reason ?
thanks in advance

MQ version 2.2 support not available - well, not this century, no
Your restoration of /opt/mqm and /var/mqm obviously fixed it, possibly with a recreate of the queue manager, but you were very very lucky - if this is a critical production system you should really look at upgrading to the latest release (which is a one-way process, unless you restore back like you did)
If not then make sure you take a security backup or two of /var/mqm and /opt/mqm, preferably when the queue manager is not running |

Sheer good luck? MQ installations are not designed to be copied like this. You will not be able to install any MQ CSD maintenance on the copied system.
Seriously, you need to upgrade to a supported version of MQ, otherwise your next major failure could spell a disaster for your business.
We laugh at people who are still on MQ 5.3, I cry when I see people using even older versions. _________________ Glenn |

We may chuckle a bit as such out-of-support versions/releases; but we are sympathetic at the same time.
Older software lacks the technological innovations that newer releases offer. Older software lacks many, many software fixes (PTFs, APARs) for problems discovered and resolved years ago.
Are you still running Windows NT?
You state that after copying a portion of the filesystem that MQ is now running fine. I would not say this to management without the disclaimer that for out-of-support and technologically obsolete software, it is running - with no guarantees about tomorrow or the day after.
If employing obsolete software is the tradition and strategic direction at your organization, it might be time to contemplate your future elsewhere. It seems that management is not contemplating the organizations future.
Will you be able to compete for your next job with experience with 10 year old software? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

Sorry, I shouldn't speak for other people. Your response was much more civil. Out of support s/w will run fine in most cases, but the business needs to accept all the risks of doing that. Usually they are afraid of the cost and complexity of doing s/w and h/w upgrades, but this usually increases over time, so its always best to do it sooner rather than later. _________________ Glenn |

My point is that it will run fine, as long as little else in the environment changes (tomorrow or the day after). There are a fleet of things that MQ did and did better at v5, v6, and does much better at v7. Lots of new capabilities and improvements.
Other than that, yes, MQ and the apps will chug along just fine. It must be a boring place to work, I'm thinking. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
