I'm trying to help someone upgrade his desktop toolkit to 6.0.2. He does not have internet access, therefore cannot use RPU. I was looking to see if I can download the update, put it in a network location we share and he can just update locally.
I found a 600+Mb file called mb602_ifix016.zip at: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/mqseries/fixes/wbimbv60
Will this file accomplish what I'm looking to help my internet-less coworker do?
Thanks! _________________ Cheers,

to me this sounds like an interim fix.
i would not go for files guessed by filename. if you find something "official" download it, if not then ask for it. everything else looks risky _________________ Regards, Butcher |

Yes you can download and use a local RUP repository instead of going over the internet.
Yes that file represents an "interim" fix, but it's an officially released interim fix - the current level of Broker Toolkit 6.0 is 6.0.2.0 iFix 18 or some such. |

Thank you both for your comments - we'll give the fix16 file a shot and see what happens. _________________ Cheers,

I just downloaded the zip file and unzipped it. There are no setup.exe or any other "launch points" that I can find. If the fix isn't meant to be "installed" like traditional product updates (I'm used to CSD's or FixPacks where there is some kind of setup interface), then how does one apply this fix?
Thanks again - I still can't believe my associate cannot get permission for internet access, but that is what the ivory tower has told him..... _________________ Cheers,

You have to point RPU at the unzipped folder.
Launch RPU, choose "Preferences", select "Update Sites" and then point it at the policy.xml file in the extract. Then search for updates. |

Adding on to what mqjeff has said -
There is a procedure to updating the toolkit depending on what level of toolkit you have installed already - if you have toolkit 6.0.0.0 there is a upgrade package on the IBM site that takes you from that level to 6.0.2, there is also a 6.0.0.1 to 6.0.2 and a 6.0.0.2 to 6.02 so you need to establish which one you need.
Next - the RPU if installed at 6.0.x level also in some cases needed to be upgraded to 6.0.2 itself before it was able to apply the fixpack (it was missing the Update sites option on the file menu toolbar) so you need to make sure you have the latest RPU self upgrade, this was invoked if internet connection was detected but in your case you have to install.
Having got all the correct software you then need to as mqjeff has said "point" the Update sites at the policy file that is in the the subfolders of the unzipped download. Hit the find updates button - if you get an error it might well be cos it cant find the site file (site.xml). This is set in the policy file as a url, its fairly obvious but it will expect it to be ina path relational to where it is itself. You may need to change it to find the correct absolute file path for the site.xml file. Save the policy file (having takena copy backup first) and hit the find updates again - it should now find you fix level which as stated is currently ifix018 and Robert is your mothers brother (Bobs your Uncle). Hope this helps. |
