Has anyone worked out an automated way of deleting the obsolete log archives datasets and removing the entries in the BSDS datasets? If you have, how are you doing this? In case it matters, we're using duplexed BSDS files. Thanks much!

Hi,
I have some homegrown Rexx that reads a BSDS, checks which of the listed archive logs are still cataloged & generates a job to delete those which aren't from the BSDS.
The utility to update the BSDS can only be run when the Qmgr is down.
In order to know which logs you need for media recovery I think you could write something that reads the checkpiont RBA from page 0 of each page set back up & in a BSDS listing looks up which log belongs to that RBA. Based on that you could delete the rest...
Cheers, Jan.. |

Hi Jan,
Thanks for the ideas.... You given me a direction to look which will be very helpful. I did run the utlility to delete the obsolete entries in the BSDS, but somehow got the two out of sync and had to delete my second BSDS, allocate a new one, and then copy into it from the first. All this was required before I could get my QMGR back up. Luckily it was one of my non-production QMGR. so no harm no foul....

Hi,
When you update a BSDS in a dual BSDS environement you should incluse both copies of the BSDS on the JCL. Otherwise, if you run one job per BSDS, although the content is the same the timestamps differ and that confuses the Qmgr..
Cheers, Jan. |
