Hi All,
We periodically want to take a backup copy of the Bootstrap, Log and Page datasets for a z/OS queue manager. Is this as simple as using IDCAMS to DEFINE the backup datasets and then REPRO to copy the live datasets to the backup datasets? Or is the proper procedure more involved than that? The queue manager would be down when we would do this.
Thanks.

What does the WMQ for z/OS Sstem Administration Guide manual say about backups? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

The only thing you really need to back up are the page sets, and for that you follow the procedure in the documentation. If you're following best practice & using dual logging / dual BSDS along with the proper archiving strategy for the logs then that should be all you need to recover the queue manager.
For this configuration you wouldn't (for example) recover a damaged BSDS from a theoretical backup; you'd use the documented procedure to recreate a new one. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
