Going back to the old chestnut of storing complete XML messages in a database and then getting them back into the XML parsing tree I am attempting (or will be attempting) to do this by using an MRM message set with an XML layer and extracting the message saved as a VARCHAR.
According to the documentation it is possible to partially define an XML message and let the rest be self defining provided you dont wish to manipulate the message.
In my case I have the following message structure
<? XML declaration>
<! DOCTYPE>
<ITIP_MESSAGE>
<ITIP_HEADER>
<MSG_TYP/>
<ITIP_HEADER>
<ITIP_DATA>
Other unwanted elements...
</ITIP_DATA>
</ITIP_MESSAGE>
has anybody done this sort of MRM declaration from scratch because the documentation is absolutely p--- poor and that includes all the redbooks I can find.
Note: Before I get the old store the message as a BLOB... . I do that and have a lovely working flow on NT extracting info from a DB2 installation on Solaris. The production system is OS390, however and we are hitting some sureal code page problems. Surreal in that we cannot get the ! in the DOCTYPE declaration to work properly. It is being raised with IBM as a PMR but rather than sitting around waiting I though this other approach could be. There is a way of extracting the whole message between one set of element tags then BLOBing the message and 'deleting' the tags using substring but I find this method amatuerish.
Any suggestions or help with the MRM stuff mucho appreciated.
