Hi guys,
MQseries 5.2 for Z/OS
I'm just wondering, what happens to a message in a queue if it's expiry is set to default(unlimited) and no module was able to read it.
Would it be stock in the queue just like expired messages? How can it be deleted?
I'm a newbie in the world of MQ so forgive me if this is too basic for you guys.
Thanks in advance. |

If expiry is set to unlimited then message will continue to stay in queue till an application picks it up...

As previously mentioned the message will remain on the queue until an applicaiton removes it. There are several support packs that can help you with this. _________________ Keith Guttridge

Expired messages are not stuck in a queue, they're deleted. Especially on z/OS.
They can be deleted by an administrator if not read. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Can you point me to a reference on how to do this?
Thanks. |

I believe that way back in v5.x (my gray matter has lost any recollection of v2.x), z/OS MQ scheduled a background process purged expired messages - when it felt like it. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

a) On z/OS the background process purges expired messages at an admin-configurable time period; it's on other platforms this happens when it feels like it
b) This post is asking what happens to unread messages that don't have expiry set, so even the z/OS scavenger process won't remove them. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Any of the usual methods; support pac, CSQUTIL, etc, etc. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
