Want to know how many queue managers could be created in 1 server (AIX).

As many as you have the disk and memory space for.

edit: and cpu power available. Which of course will depend on which AIX box you have, which version of MQ you are running, how many queues you want, how many channels, expected message throughput etc. etc. etc.

There isn't a simple answer to your question.

Look at the performance support pacs for AIX for more info on capacity planning.

Our application is very heavy with client connections. The number of queue managers we can run on a single server is generally dictated by its RAM. We also run Websphere Message Broker which carries some overhead (also mostly RAM).

For our site, RAM is more important than CPU. But it depends very much on the way the product is used.

Whenever possible, I emphasize to our architects and developers that queue managers are expensive but queues are cheap. Mostly that doesn't get me anywhere.

Beyond the issue of resources, you also need to consider a single AIX box as a single-point-of-failure. Same applies to a single LPAR. Do you want all of you qmgrs to go dead?
