Much the same as the difference between a database and an application server. They're 2 different pieces of software intended for different tasks.

The IBM site has a number of good overview documents on both products.

I'm interested to note you've apparently been "new to WMB" since July 2011. That's a long time to be new....

WMB is a robust high speed messaging engine. WPS is a BPEL automation engine. They are entirely different, as my ESTEEMED colleague has pointed out...

They have different roles and responsibilities. They are not designed to attack the same business value proposition. Their use (as designed) would solve different business problems from different problem domains.
