Hello there,
I am currently trying to estimate hardware needs for our WebSphere MQ project and found this (WP01) SupportPac on the IBM website. I am confused about the meaning of the words "process", "process instance" and "activity".
Do the authors of the document mean "process" like a "process" running at os level like "runmqlsr"? Is it correct then that I have to count all processes running on a machine like runmqlsr, runmqchl etc. and all of the queue manager intern processes and processes opened for every client connecting to the queue manage? How do I know then which activities are executes by those processes?
Because THAT would be hell of a task
Or I am totally wrong and it is much, much, much simpler? _________________ Volvic |

WP01 is for Workflow.
If you are not using Workflow (which you really probably aren't) then it doesn't apply. |

So there is a separate product called WebSphere MQ Workflow?
Where is the facepalm emote icon?
So is there a way, maybe Excel sheet, how I can calculate hardware requirements for WebSphere MQ queue managers on a throughput basis (messages / second, client count etc.)? _________________ Volvic |

There is no such formula as there are just to many variables to come up with an accurate answer.
Your best bet is to read the Performance Report for your platform on the MQ Support Packs page, and then compare the numbers they got on their hardware with what you want to do.
Then test, test, test. _________________ Peter Potkay
