As a Java novice (I'm not a developer) I have problem setting 'classpath' correctly on NT under 5.3 now that IBM has the default install directory as 'Websphere MQ'....i.e. the space. The Classpath is fine as an environment variable, but when I use '-cp MyPkg.jar;%classpath%' in a .bat file to add a new element to the existing classpath the parsing fails at the first space that is encountered. What is the best way to handle this? Putting double quotes around the statement has no effect.

Hi,

Yup, I have tripped over this one. You need to use the "short" filenames.

Open a Command Prompt window and CD to the parent directory of 'Websphere MQ' and type dir /X . This command will give you both the short and normal directory names. e.g. WEBSPH~1

Just use the short names for any directory paths with a space in them.
e.g. Instead of C:\Program Files\Websphere MQ\Java\lib
use C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSPH~1\Java\lib

later
Roger...

Roger,
Thanks for that tip....did not know about 'dir/x', although I had tried experimenting with 'Web~1'; should have realised it needed to be 8 characters.
Most unhelpful of IBM....the additions to the 'classpath' environment variable that were made during the 5.3 install are riddled with '\Program Files' and '\Websphere MQ', all of which have to be changed!
